Artificial turf is widely used in many settings due to its durability and low maintenance requirements. However, without systematic maintenance, its appearance and performance will still decline over time. Scientific maintenance not only extends its lifespan but also ensures the safety and aesthetics of the area. Standardized procedures must be implemented in daily, periodic, and specialized care.
Daily maintenance focuses on keeping the surface clean and the structure intact. Leaves, dust, gravel, and other debris should be removed regularly to prevent them from embedding in the grass fibers or clogging drainage holes. Cleaning should be done using soft tools or low-pressure airflow to avoid damaging the fibers or the underlying layer with high temperatures or strong impacts. For areas with high foot traffic or frequent exercise, daily or every other day inspections are necessary. Any areas with delamination, wrinkling, or flattened grass fibers should be straightened or reinforced promptly to prevent the problem from spreading.
Periodic maintenance generally includes combing and infill management. It is recommended to use a light comb to alternate between clockwise and counterclockwise directions weekly to restore the grass fibers to an upright position, maintaining a uniform visual effect and stable friction performance. Infill materials such as quartz sand and rubber granules may settle or become unevenly distributed during use. They should be replenished and evenly spread as needed to maintain the elasticity and flatness of the surface. Simultaneously, check the strength of the joints and the overall color; any areas of aging or significant wear should be included in the repair plan.
Specialized maintenance should be carried out regularly based on environmental conditions and usage. A thorough wash can be performed monthly or quarterly, using warm water and a neutral detergent to remove stains and organic deposits. The washing pressure should not be too high to prevent water seepage into the substrate or fiber deformation. In rainy seasons or humid areas, drainage channels should be kept clear to prevent water from seeping into the subgrade and causing mold or structural loosening. In environments with strong sunlight or large temperature differences, observe the grass fibers for fading and brittleness, and take shading or surface protection measures as necessary.
Furthermore, maintenance should adhere to environmental and sustainable principles, prioritizing the use of biodegradable or recyclable cleaning materials. Waste infill and aged turf should be disposed of according to regulations. By establishing and implementing a maintenance system that includes daily cleaning, periodic grooming, and special inspections, the performance of artificial turf can be maintained at an ideal level, achieving the management goal of low cost and long-term benefits.
